Presentation

In the condensed time of the Greek Civil War, women participated with such dynamism in the class struggle, for the first time, overturning prejudices deeply rooted in Greek society, and moreover in that of the 1940s countryside. The history of the Democratic Army of Greece (DSE) fighters is an aspect of the history of communist movement in Greece and at the same time a story of women soaked in their blood. A story rooted in the interwar era, when the women's emancipation movement took its first decisive steps. This era marked the entry of women into production and their participation in the emerging class struggles. Along the beginning of the Occupation, the grand entry of women into the Resistance was a pivotal point in the history of the women's movement in Greece. Through their participation in the organizations of EAM and KKE, National Solidarity and EPON, but also through their participation in the armed struggle of ELAS, women invaded the public space and took part in the struggle for social liberation. The women made this legacy to the Democratic Army of Greece their property, took off and made their own Ascension to Heaven. (from the presentation on the back cover of the book)
